Have you ever been going about your business, reaching into the bottom of the washing machine, pulling out the clothes and throwing them into the dryer? Something that would seem to be a normal routine for most right? Right. That of course is until you reach your hand to the bottom of the machine to reach for that last batch of clothes. To reach for the last few things to be thrown in the dryer before you can move on to your next maundane task. Until you reach into that part of the washing machine you can't see very well, and your hand hits it. This nasty, squishy, disgusting mess. A mess where you hate to pull your hand back and look to see what you've just thrust yourself into. There are very few things one would think could be like that in the bottom of a washing machine, but being the mother of four I've come to the conclusion that you really can't rule anything out. It could be a half eaten peanut butter sandwich that was suck in someones coat pocket left over from school that you didn't know was there, it could be mud that started out as sand in someone shorts while they were playing in the sand box, really it could be a number of things.
Today, and in this case, it was a pampers pull up training pants. I ofcourse immediatly stopped carelessly pulling clothes out of the machine, and started pulling them out as gingerly as I could so that I could try to dump as much of the mess in the trash as I could. Its amazing to me how big those things can swell up to. They get HUGE! And of course, they burst. I can only imagine how it got into my washing machine. Probably in the easiest explainable way. Kaleb and Kendyl have this new found love of going through EVERYTHING in their dressers and drawers in their room. They probably came across the stash of "big kid undies" and pulled them out to play with. it certainly wouldn't have been the first time, and most likely won't be the last. And then upon hearing mom coming towards their room, they probably dumped one in their laundry basket. And silly me didn't go through every scrap of clothing in their bin before carelessly dumping it into the machine. So, a new, perfectly good pull up went through the wash, and made a MESS of the machine. We've had diapers go through before. New ones of course. And they never burst. Those things could probably weather a hurricane and come out intact! But not pull ups. Those things seem to burst easier than a balloon with a pin.
In turn, I spent the next 20 minutes cleaning out the bottom of my washing machine cursing myself for not checking all the laundry first. They are of course 2 year old twins, who seem to have incredible twinginuity.
I guess I should count my lucky stars that it was only a pull up I found! In hindsight I realize it could have been much, much worse!
